Quantum cryptography (QC for this discussion) theory—and it is still just theory—is potentially a very powerful security process that could be implemented for the dissemination of information over communications channels, using the principles of quantum mechanics. This is particularly intriguing because it is impossible to measure a photon, the fundamental element in the creation of QC secure keys, without affecting its behavior.“Quantum cryptography relies on the principle that anything which is being observed changes,” said Roel Schouwenberg, principal security researcher, of Kaspersky Labs. “This means it is impossible to intercept/wiretap the traffic between two nodes, as intercepting the data would mean changing it. Therefore, quantum cryptography is unbreakable under the current law of physics when implemented well.”QC is being eyed as a methodology able to efficiently generate an unbreakable secure key that can be used to protect sensitive … [Read more...] about Quantum Cryptography: A Magic Bullet For The IoT?

News that students in two Chinese schools could be behind recent well-publicized online attacks on Google and other major U.S. corporations doing business in China has security experts running for cover.McAfee, which has dubbed the hacks "Operation Aurora," described the series of attacks as highly sophisticated and a watershed event in cybercrime. The attacks have led to a standoff between Internet megacompany Google and the government of China over Beijing's censorship of the Internet. Google's stance has won it vocal support from several high-ranking members of the U.S government. The events have also prompted Chinese authorities to crack down on hackers. The online attacks have been traced to Shanghai Jiaotong University and the Lanxiang Vocational School, according to unnamed sources cited in a New York Times report.Jiaotong University has one of China's top computer programs. Students from the university won the 2010 ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest earlier this … [Read more...] about Look Who’s Not Talking About Chinese Schools and Google Hack
